Rides
Planning a ride
around the mid North Coast? We've got some suggestions!
But first a word of warning
... gravel is common on many of the mid North Coast roads,
particularly at intersections so please take care.
Route 1 -
Take Crescent Head turn off south of Kempsey and follow the road to Crescent
Head. On arrival at Crescent Head there's time for a coffee! Park at
the beach, get a coffee from the camping ground cafe and enjoy the view.
Then, leaving Crescent Head take the right turn towards South West Rocks
along Seale Road to Upper Belmore onto Belmore Road. At T-intersection
turn right onto South West Rocks Road following it all the way into this
beautiful coastal town where you can take a breather on the headland and enjoy
the view. When you're ready to leave, ride along the South West
Rocks Road again turning right onto Plummers Lane at Jerseyville. Follow
this road to Summer Island Road on the left which takes you into
Smithtown, at T-intersection turn right then immediately left onto road taking
you the Pacific Highway where you turn left to head back into Kempsey.
Route 2 -
Riding north through Kempsey township to East Kempsey take the turn off on the
left to Armidale. Follow this road to a T-Intersection, turn right
towards Greenhill. Follow road through Skillion Flat and Willawarrin to
Bellbrook. Bellbrook boasts a great country pub where lunch is served
Saturday
& Sunday. For more upmarket fare stop at "Bliss in the Bush" at Turners
Flat where delicious lunches, sweet treats and coffees are served.
The Willawarrin pub is not bad too for a stop though you'll have to get lunch at
the shop next door. They do make tasty hamburgers! You can return
the along the same road or at Greenhill you can turn right into Gowings Hill
Road which takes you through Sherwood and past Sherwood Winery. Turn
left into Marys Bay Road then right into Euroka Road which will take you to
Pacific Highway, South Kempsey.
Route 3 -
Ride south from Kempsey on Pacific Highway turning off at Pembrooke Road towards
Wauchope. Turn right at T-intersection onto Redbank Road,
follow this to intersection where you can turn left to take you into Wauchope
township. They have regular market days and there are a good selection
of cafe's, pubs and other eateries also Timbertown if you haven't been there
before. You can then return to the Pacific Highway via route 34 or take a
right turn at the round-about on the Bago Road which also joins the Pacific
Highway further south.
Route 4 -
As above but instead of taking a left into Wauchope township keep going straight
ahead to Beechwood along the Beechwood Road which changes into
Pappinbarra Road that takes you through Lower Pappinbarra. Unfortunately
the road turns to gravel just short of Pappinbarra but it is a lovely ride
through verdant countryside. You must return the way you came though you
may then want to turn right into Wauchope township.
Route 5 -
Ride south of Kempsey on Pacific Highway turning left at Telegraph Point where
you follow the road through to Rollands Plains and Upper Rollands
Plains. Beautiful countryside but no where really to stop for a coffee.
Suggest you pack a picnic. You'll need to return the way you came as the
road
eventually turns to gravel but you could turn right on your way back at Reids
Road which joins up with Pembrooke Road, turn left at intersection and
follow road back towards Telegraph Point. You'll need to get back onto the
Pacific Highway to cross the bridge over Telegraph Point township.
Route 6 -
Again riding south of Kempsey along Pacific Highway, then follow same
instructions at Route 3 above going into Wauchope township but when you
get right into town turn right onto the Oxley Highway following this to the
Comboyne Road turnoff. Follow the road all the way to Comboyne
township where you'll find a wonderful cafe where you can get a delicious cup of
coffee and a sweet treat. If you're game, as there's some gravel,
you can go on from here to Ellenborough Falls and then return the way you came.
If you're up for more gravel, you could return to the Pacific
Highway by turning off just as you're leaving Comboyne down Lorne Road, then
into Daylesford Road towards Kew. The scenery is lovely as it
takes you through several forested areas including: Kerewong, Lorne, Bulls
Ground and Kew State Forests.
We do hope you enjoy these
rides. There are others we could suggest but this page just isn't long
enough. The best way to enjoy the fantastic scenery here on the mid North
Coast is to come along to our Rally in November when we will do all the route
planning for you.
